Returning Home from the Hospital

Need physiotherapy but can’t get to a clinic? We bring the clinic to you.

Returning home from the hospital

Staying in a hospital whether short term or long term can be a exhausting experience. Although most people leave the hospital feeling better, some return still feeling weak and tired. This can be due to the lingering effects of whatever sent them to the hospital, from the lack of sleep and/or the lack of activity.

Any period of inactivity can lead to a decline in strength, balance and/or the ability to walk.

Our team at Physio en Route Inc. has helped many people return to their everyday of life after returning home from the hospital

Important things to do when returning home

Get active

Getting active is the best way to regain your strength, balance and ability to walk. It also will help reduce the chances that you need to be re-admitted to a hospital. A physiotherapist can come to your home to evaluate any loss of strength, balance or ability to walk and guide you through the process of rehabilitation

Rest

I know we just told you to get active, but there has to be good balance. Be sure to balance your activity with some periods of rest. This is a marathon not a 100 meter dash. We recommend you take several short walks a day instead of taking one long one which will tire you out. You should gradually increase your activity levels every day
