Pain is one of the most common reasons for consultation with a physiotherapist. Physiotherapists have the ability to assess and treat pain without invasive procedures or medications.

What causes pain?

Pain can occur suddenly or can take months to develop due to

  • Injuries
    • Traumatic injuries such as a rotator cuff tear or an sprained MCL
    • Atraumatic injuries (repetitive movements leading to micro traumas) such as Tennis elbow or knee tendinitis
  • Improper posture leading to increased muscle tension and muscle cramps
  • Pain could be presenting for other non-mechanical causes. Cases like these may need to consult other health care professionals

Pain can originate from one or a combination of physical structures and can be a result of the following:
